The Canal de Berry

Although the idea of digging a canal between the Loire and Cher goes back to the fifteenth century, it was not until the early nineteenth that the Canal de Berry was finally created.

The canal descends 245 metres over its 320 km length, requiring 115 locks - one every three kilometres.
